BRAZIL. 960 Reis, 1820-B. Bahia Mint. Joao VI. NGC AU-55.

KM-326.2; LDMB-462C. A well struck 960 Reis that, like normal, is struck over an 8 Reales. In this case, we can identify the underlying host coin as a 1783-Mo 8 Reales from design elements still visible around the rims. This is particularly scarce, as many of the 1783-Mo mintage was lost at sea in the El Cazador shipwrecks. A very fascinating overstrike.
