Description

LESBOS. Mytilene. EL Hekte (2.53 gms), ca. 377-326 B.C. NGC EF, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 4/5.

HGC-6, 1021 (obv. described as Dionysos); Bodenstedt-95. Obverse: Laureate head of Apollo (or Dionysos) right; Reverse: Draped female bust right, with hair in bun; all within linear square border. Despite being just a touch off-center, this interesting fraction issue presents a different look to the obverse portrait, namely in that Apollo/Dionysos is grimacing in a rather expressive manner.

From the Mark and Lottie Salton Collection. Ex: Salton-Schlessinger FPL 19, Lot # 3. Salton-Schlessinger FPL 15, Lot # 8 (part of).
