Description

SICILY. Siculo-Punic. Entella. AR Tetradrachm (17.10 gms), c.320-300-BC. NGC AU★, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 5/5. Fine Style.

HGC-2, 284; Jenkins-150 (O47/R135); SNG Lloyd-1631 (same obv. die). Obverse: Head of Arethousa left, wearing wreath of grain ears; four dolphins around; Reverse: Head of horse left; palm tree to right, Punic legend below. This dazzling example features a bold and very well centered strike paired with an elegant and enticing cabinet tone. The star designation for superior eye appeal is wholly deserved, with some olive-champagne hints enveloping the devices and some flecks of brilliance emanating from the protected areas.

From the Mark and Lottie Salton Collection.
