ITALY. Calabria. Tarentum. AR Didrachm (Nomos) (6.48 gms), ca. 272-240 B.C. NGC Ch EF, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 3/5.

HGC-1, 889; Vlasto-859-62; HN Italy-1031. Obverse: Nude youth riding horse right, holding reins and crowning horse; monogram to left; below horse, facing mask of Silenos; below raised foreleg, KY/NΩN in two lines; Reverse: Phalanthos, holding kantharos, riding dolphin left. Better quality than generally encountered on this popular series, the present example offers a well centered strike on a flan of good, though occasionally granular, metal.
