CHINA. Chihli (Pei Yang). 7 Mace 2 Candareens (Dollar), Year 23 (1897). Tientsin (East Arsenal) Mint. NGC AU-55.
L&M-444; cf. K-186; KM-Y-65.1; WS-Unlisted. Variety with round-eyed (cartoon) dragon with long horns. An interesting type featuring a dragon that more closely resembles the "triangle-eyed" dragon with respect to overall facial structure and the shape of the horns, but with "spectacled" eyes instead. Quite alluring and appealing for this early on at Chihli, with a slight, gentle degree of handling and a good deal of brilliance emanating from the fields, and a hint of burnished iridescence nearer the peripheries.
