Description

JAPAN. Japan - Russia. Battle of Tsushima Bronze Medal, Years 37/8 (1904/5). NGC MS-65 Brown.

cf. Smirnov-1343. Diameter: 55mm. Commemorating the Battle of Tsushima. Obverse: Wreath and artillery shell before Japanese Army and Navy flags crossed in saltire; sakura blossoms around; Reverse: Legend in four lines in Japanese within circular maeander border; Japanese legend around; all within circular border of alternating anchors and stars. Exceptionally flawless and glossy, with chocolate brown surfaces and a great deal of resounding luster. A RARE and highly interesting battle pertaining to the Russo-Japanese War of 1904/5, and incredibly difficult when encountered in a Gem state of preservation as is the case here. Compare to a silver version in our 2019 ANA auction (lot # 21306), a PCGS SPECIMEN-65, that realized a total of $5,280.

Estimate: $420 - $700
