JAPAN. 2 Bu, ND (1868-69). Osaka Mint. Mutsuhito (Meiji). PCGS MS-63.
Fr-22; KM-C-21d; JNDA-09-29; JC-03-32. Struck in a hybrid gold-silver alloy, this absolutely gorgeous early Meiji era 2 Bu tells the story of Japan at a crossroad. Minted at the beginning of the Meiji restoration, this issue bears resemblance to the older Shogun era Bu, and very little to the milled coinage that an industrializing Meiji Japan would begin to create a few years later. Tied for the finest certified by PCGS, this interesting piece is a story in addition to a coin.
