34.2 mm. Obv: Bust of the general left, signed G H L on shoulder, peripheral inscription MAJ. GENERAL / JESSE L. RENO. Rev: Inscribed AWARDED TO at top with wreath around periphery, the center is blank as this is an unawarded medal. General Reno was a West Point graduate (1846) and professor of mathematics there. He was killed during the Civil War at the Battle of South Mountain in the Antietam campaign, September 14, 1862.
