1852-C Liberty Head Half Eagle. Winter-1. VF-35 (PCGS).
Pleasing light honey-gold color to both sides, the surfaces retain appreciable mint luster that is best seen with the aid of direct lighting. Well struck for the issuing mint, most design elements are boldly to sharply rendered, and uncommonly so at the assigned grade level. Winter-1 is the more frequently encountered of the two die pairings known for the issue, although we stress that the 1852-C is as conditionally challenged as one would expect for any pre-Civil War Southern gold issue. Problem free examples, as here, are scarce and eagerly sought throughout the numismatic grading scale.
