1877 Liberty Head Quarter Eagle. AU-55 (NGC).
Light yellow gold surfaces are prooflike in protected areas. What a fantastic piece this must have been when first struck! Highly popular as one of the key dates among later issue quarter eagles. A few minor scratches and marks are seen overall, but these hardly detract from this coin's overall scarcity. Only 1,632 were made for circulation, and yet, the market price of this coin hovers around the $1,500 range-quite a value, you must agree!
