1897-O Morgan Silver Dollar. MS-63 (PCGS).
Here's a pretty coin. Both sides display varying degrees of natural deep original toning. The obverse shows deep peripheral shades of cobalt-blue, russet, and antique-gold; the reverse features turquoise tones intermixed with other iridescent hues. The devices are remarkably well struck for an 1897-O silver dollar, being sharply to fully defined in all areas, save only for Liberty's hair over her ear. Not overly abraded for the assigned grade, as well, this attractively original piece belongs in an advanced Morgan dollar set. This popular branch mint scarcity is much more difficult to obtain in Uncirculated than its mintage of just over four million pieces suggests. Indeed, its Guide Book value is mid four-figures in MS-63 and then advances rapidly in value, well into five figures as a matter of fact, above MS-63. The present MS-63 specimen represents a solid value in our eyes.
