1841 Liberty Seated Silver Dollar. OC-1. Rarity-1. Repunched Date. AU-50 (PCGS).
A richly original example dressed in blended tobacco-brown and pewter-gray patina. Sharply defined overall with uncommonly smooth-looking surfaces for a lightly circulated No Motto Liberty Seated dollar. The 1841 is among the more underrated issues of this type from the 1840s. It is far scarcer in attractive AU and Mint State preservation than most collectors realize, especially since its mintage is similar to that of the more readily obtainable 1842 (173,000 vs. 184,618 pieces). It is likely that fewer examples of the 1841 that were exported returned to the United States in payment for American goods. A significant coin that is sure to see spirited bidding among specialists in this particularly challenging Liberty Seated series.
