1787 New Jersey Copper. Maris 37-J, W-5140. Rarity-5+. No Sprig Above Plow, Goiter. Very Fine, Granular, Scratches.
165.59 grains. A deeply toned olive-copper example with a minor curved planchet clip at 1 o'clock relative to the obverse, yet with a rather well centered and overall boldly executed strike. Rough and granular, wispy pin scratches in and around the central obverse are also noted. There are a fair number of examples of Maris 37-J in this grade, but not many better, and with plenty of detail and no singularly mentionable marks this piece has much to offer the astute New Jersey copper enthusiast.
