Description

Port Lavaca, Texas. $10 1882 Brown Back. Fr. 490. The First NB. Charter #5367. PMG Very Fine 20.

Up until tonight's auction, just one $10 Brown Back was available to collectors from this Calhoun County issuing bank. Today, a total of eight large notes are known to this elusive issuer, with that number now rising to nine. New discoveries are always welcome among the collecting community, especially Texas Nationals, due to the shortage of available notes compared to the demand for those looking to collect Nationals from the Lone Star state. The First National was chartered in May of 1900 and issued a scant $78,000 in notes before liquidating in May of 1923. Just $7,000 was outstanding when the bank closed. PMG comments "Previously Mounted."

Estimate: $800.00 - $1200.00
