1862 Liberty Seated Half Dollar. Proof-64+ (PCGS). CAC.
Richly original surfaces are warmly toned in a blend of sandy-gray, pewter and steel-olive. The boldest colors ring the obverse periphery, while both sides reveal more vivid olive and champagne-pink undertones as the coin dips into a light. Fully struck, expertly preserved, and a delight to behold. Proof mintage: 550 pieces, survivors of which are scarcer than that figure might imply given the chaotic conditions that reigned during the second year of the Civil War.
