1873 Silver Three-Cent Piece. Proof-63 Cameo (PCGS). CAC.
One of the key dates as these were only struck in Proof to the tune of 600 pieces. Cameo strikes are rare, and quite desirable. Russet-copper and blue toning around the rims, with glassy reflective fields and frosted devices forming the Cameo effect. Examination finds a few wispy hairlines from a past wiping that account for the Select grade level. One of the later impressions as the dies show traces of rust, particularly in the reverse fields, common to this final year of issue of the silver three-cent pieces.
