“1737” Higley Copper Re-engraved Copy. About as Made.
Seemingly made by the same hand as the previous lot, with workmanship reminiscent of Dr. F.S. Edwards Immune Columbia copper (see Ford XIV: 617, offered in this sale). Rich chocolate brown, smooth and attractive but for some trivial microgranularity and a couple hairlines in the upper left reverse. This is what we all wish Higley coppers looked like. Someone wanted one that looked like this badly enough that they made themselves one. A stunner.
From the E Pluribus Unum Collection. Earlier from our (Stack's) sale of the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, Part XIV, May 2006, part of lot 675.
