Description

SYRIA. Seleukid Kingdom. Antiocos IV Epiphanes, 175-164 B.C. AR Tetradrachm (16.84 gms), Ake-Ptolemais Mint, ca. 167-164 B.C. NGC Ch VF, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 3/5.

HGC-9, 620c; SC-1476.1e. Obverse: Diademed head right; monogram to left; Reverse: Zeus seated left on throne, holding scepter and crowning Nike; palm frond to outer left, M (over erased ΑΣ?) in exergue. A charming and lightly toned example, this piece would appear to have the exergue control erased (SC-1476.1d) and replaced with another.
