Sole finest certified for this rare variety at PCGS, this lovely premium Gem has vivid orange-gold surfaces. The design elements are boldly rendered, satiny in texture, and contrast nicely with reflective fields. This backdated issue was produced circa 1881 to 1883 by Christopher Ferdinand Mohrig. Only 13 listings, with duplication, comprise the Bob Leonard census published in the 2003 edition of the Breen-Gillio reference California Pioneer Fractional Gold . The actual number known may be closer to the 10 to 12 pieces accounted for by PCGS CoinFacts . This lovely example is high in the Condition Census, and is just right for another highly regarded collection. BG Die State I, with prominent repunching to star 7.
