1861 Liberty Head Half Eagle. AU-58 (PCGS).
Lustrous honey-orange surfaces are lustrous and boldly to sharply struck. Half eagle production at the Philadelphia Mint soared to 688,084 pieces in 1861 as the Northern economy transitioned to a wartime footing. As such, this issue is one of the most popular for type purposes of the No Motto Liberty Head design. Coins with strong visual appeal, as here, are surely prized and worthy of a premium bid.
