Description

1794 Liberty Cap Cent. S-18B. Rarity-4. Head of 1793. Edge of 1794. Good-6 (PCGS).

A wholesome early copper for the assigned grade, evenly toned deep golden-copper and olive-brown surfaces are pleasingly smooth in overall appearance. We note only a few minor, well scattered blemishes, the most significant of which are a very mark in the upper left obverse field between the liberty cap and the letter L in LIBERTY, and a shallow edge bruise at 12:30 on the reverse. Peripheral detail is a bit soft, commensurate with the grade, but all major design elements are at least partially discernible, and those toward the centers are sufficiently bold. The Head of 1793 is a scarce Guide Book variety of the 1794 Liberty Cap cent issue, and this PCGS Good-6 represents the variety well. The holder obscures the part of the edge immediately after the word DOLLAR and, while we cannot see the leaf, we have gone with the less rare S-18B attribution for this coin.

PCGS# 1362. NGC ID: 223M.

Estimate: $5’000.00
