Civil War, A.D. 68-69
CIVIL WAR, A.D. 68-69. Fourree Denarius (3.04 gms), Imitating uncertain mint in Gaul. NGC VF, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 2/5. Core Visible.
cf. RIC-68. Obverse: Victory standing right on globus, holding wreath and palm frond; winged caduceus to lower right; Reverse: S P Q R / OB / C S in three lines within wreath. An interesting imitative issue, this piece would appear to be a muling of types likely issued under Gaius Julius Vindex, though the addition of the winged caduceus would seemingly be a new control. Some roughness as these imitations usually present, but a great contemporary issue of a VERY RARE prototype.
