Fairs and Expositions
1884-85 New Orleans Exposition Medal. Copper. Very Fine.
26 mm. Obv: Wreathed image of a man hauling bales of cotton on a hand-cart, along with the inscription EXPOSITION / NEW ORLEANS / 1884 & 85. Rev: Pelican and the dial of a scale, at the top is a nearly illegible inscription including the word FOR. Both sides have three partial holes and regularly spaced notches on the rim suggesting some sort or counting system. Quite intriguing!
From the Robert Adam Collection of Tokens and Medals. Acquired via eBay, November 2009.
