Liberty Head Half Eagle
1851-D Liberty Head Half Eagle. AU-50 (PCGS). CAC.
Glints of pinkish-rose iridescence adorn the peripheries of this otherwise honey-olive example. Lustrous for the grade with all but the central high points boldly to sharply defined. Despite a mintage of 62,710 pieces, the 1851-D numbers among the top 10 rarest half eagle issues from this Southern mint. The present example is finer than the typically offered VF or EF, and has the added interest of a repunched first digit 1 in the date.
