Connecticut Copper
1788 Connecticut Copper. Miller 6-H, W-4445. Rarity-5+. Mailed Bust Right. AU-50 (PCGS).
109.5 grains. An outstanding example of the popular and rare "Boxer Head" variety and pedigreed to the famous 1975 EAC Sale. This sharp coin shows very little wear and still displays traces of glossy luster and mint frost in the fields. Areas of natural planchet roughness are seen on each side which is common for the variety. Quite choice otherwise and offers overall good eye appeal. The detail is just about full with only a portion of a few letters affected by a small planchet clip. The obverse is in its usual late die state with significant swelling in the fields and bold clash marks. These characteristics no doubt necessitated an early retirement for this die pair which accounts for its scarcity today. This is an impressive survivor and definite contender for Condition Census inclusion.
