Continental Currency
Lot of (2) CC-5 & CC-6. Continental Currency. May 10, 1775. $5 & $6. PMG About Uncirculated 50 EPQ & PCGS Currency About New 50.
Nos. 26205 and 45403. The $5 is signed by Coombe and Davis. The $6 signed by Tuckniss and Roberts. Emblems are seen of a Hand pricked by thorns as well as a Beaver gnawing a tree. Latin mottos include SUSTINE VEL ABSTINE (Either survive or give up) and PERSEVERANO (By perseverance). A very attractive pair of Continentals that are both well signed and numbered, with good detail and excellent printing. Notes from this first Continental emission have some real sleeper rarities, and the $5 and $6 notes are among them. The last $5 notes we sold was this very note, and it realized over $550 in our March 2015 sale. We have seen similar results for $6 notes that we have sold. Today's Continental market can only be described as "exuberant."
