Description

Colonial Notes

MA-209CT. Massachusetts. June 18, 1776. 24 Shillings. PCGS Currency Choice About New 58. Contemporary Counterfeit. Pen Cancelled.

No. 6147. False signatures of Davis and Ellis. Plates copied from Benjamin Edes. Printed on coarse paper. Cross-hatch pen cancels across the face. Very scarce and popular "Small Sword in Hand" note, desirable even as a contemporary counterfeit. It has been a long wait since the last time we sold a counterfeit from this series. That PCGS Extremely Fine 45PPQ realized $1,150 in our 2012 ANA sale.

Estimate: $ 900 - 1200
