Description

Draped Bust Cent

1796 Draped Bust Cent. S-117. Rarity-5+. Reverse of 1797. Good-6, Porous.

A formidable rarity and usually among the last few varieties acquired by those forming a set of this date by Sheldon number. This mildly rough but nicely detailed example is an admirable representative that comes with a long provenance.

PCGS# 35864.

From the Bill Woytasek Collection. Earlier ex Federal Coin Exchange's June 1956 sale, lot 1160; Edward H. Schwartz; Abe Kosoff's sale of the Edward H. Schwartz Collection, October 1961, lot 134; Dr. Hiram T. Ward; G. Lee Kuntz; Superior's sale of the G. Lee Kuntz Collection, October 1991, lot 129; Jim Long; Superior's September 1997 sale, lot 205; Col. Steven Ellsworth; our (Stack's) The Schaumburg Sale, June 2009, lot 142.
