Description

Liberty Cap Cent

1793 Liberty Cap Cent. S-12. Rarity-6. AG Details--Scratch (PCGS).

One of the rare die varieties of the famous 1793 Liberty Cap type, of which there are far too few specimens extant to satisfy the demand from those collecting by Sheldon number. This example has granular steel-brown surfaces with several nicks and scratches, but pleasing definition including mostly outlined devices and clear diagnostics of each die - the two border beads over the I in LIBERTY and the bulge at the central reverse.

PCGS# 35486.

From the Bill Woytasek Collection. Earlier ex Ken Draudt, 1961; C.F. Gordon; Chris McCawley, November 1992; Max Gors; Tom Reynolds; March 1996.

Estimate: $ 5000
