1924 Footed Plaque of Capt. John Ericsson, Designer of the Civil War Ironclad USS Monitor. Bronze. About Uncirculated.
74 mm x 101 mm, domed top. Obv: Portraits at top of Winslow, Griswold and Bushnel, the three principals involved in the contracting for and building of the ship, are seen above a view of the Monitor at sea. Beneath this a 14-line synopsis of the builders and the ship's development. Rev: Eleven-line inscription noting the placement of the original large plaque at 95 Franklin St., NYC where Ericsson designed the ship, notation that this miniature was provided by the Great American Insurance Company of New York, and four hemispheric feet. By Anton Scharff, this plaque is a miniature of the aforementioned large plaque.
