Life Saving Medals
Undated (possibly ca. 1880s) Incomplete Life Saving Badge. White Metal.
42 mm x 52 mm. Scene of woman holding a rope and escaping from a burning building, three rescuers below, each wearing a fez and upward pointed shoes. Beneath the scene in a blue enameled panel is inscribed SAV-ANNA-H. G. A., and with one of the rescuers exclaiming HOLD ONTO / THE ROPE. If the ribbon or rest of the badge were still present, it might shed some light on this enigmatic medal. Perhaps issued by a fraternal organization in Savannah, Georgia, or perhaps a true life saving medal.
