J.M. HILL / NEW YORK on an 1819 Matron Head large cent. Brunk H-604, Rulau-NY 2058. Host coin Very Good.
Joseph M. Hill is listed in the 1845/46 city directory as a hardware dealer located at 385 Bowery St. in New York, NY. Starting with the 1849/50 directory, he is listed as a locksmith now located at 6 Third Street. In 1851/52 he is listed at 78 Fifth Street, then the next year at 80 Fifth Street. He is no longer listed after 1854. Although Brunk lists him as being a blacksmith, he is not listed that way in any of the city directories that cover the time period when he is listed. Rulau does have him listed correctly. This is the only example listed in both Brunk and Rulau.
