John Wildman Winder (1828-1900) was an “Artist” (Daguerreotypist) working at his studio in Cincinnati, OH located first at 142 4th St. and then at 160 5th St. working from the 1850s to the 1870s. In 1857 his gallery was known as Winder's Great Western Ambrotype and Melainotype Gallery. It is stated that he could make 800 images a day. By 1890 he had moved to New Orleans, working as a photographer there as well. He was known for landscapes as well as portrait photos. Included with this lot is an actual photo by the artist.
