Description

Counterstamps

J.G. PEARSON & CO in a box punch on an 1833 Matron Head large cent. Brunk-Unlisted, Rulau-Unlisted. Host coin Fine.

John Gann Pearson (1819-1902) was a silversmith working in Newburyport, MA from 1849 to 1880. However, he was only in the partnership of J.G. PEARSON & Co. from 1849 to 1851, so this stamp emanates from this two year time frame. This is the only example currently known.

From the Steve M. Tompkins Collection.

Estimate: $ 175
