A scarce issue with a limited mintage of 27,400 pieces, Douglas Winter ( Gold Coins of the New Orleans Mint: 1839-1909, 2020 edition) ranks the 1842-O as a median rarity among the 21 early date (read: pre-Civil War) New Orleans Mint eagles.
