Three-Dollar Gold Piece
1869 Three-Dollar Gold Piece. AU-58 (PCGS).
This minimally circulated, visually appealing example retains plenty of lively satin to semi-prooflike luster. It is sharply defined throughout, and displays attractive, even deep gold patina. Elusive in all grades, the 1869 three-dollar gold was produced to the extent of just 2,500 circulation strikes, and survivors number fewer than 300 coins. They are scarce in Choice AU condition and considerably rare in Mint State, making this near-Mint example an important offering.
