Pr-P172 corr. In the name of Philip III of Macedon. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin; Reverse: Zeus seated left on throne, holding eagle and scepter; Ξ (date) in left field; below throne, ΣI below strut. Somewhat weakly struck and porous, this example nevertheless stands as an early Egyptian type under Alexander's general, Ptolemy. Still retaining the iconic Herakles/Zeus type, it also displays Philip's name--Ptolemy not yet utilizing his own name and types.
