Republic Reales
MEXICO. "Hookneck" 1/2 Real, 1824-Mo JM. Mexico City Mint. PCGS MS-63 Gold Shield.
KM-369. Hubbard & O'Harrow-Unlisted (Ty. 2/4 Mule). A choice Mint State survivor of the famous "hookneck" type, this coin exhibits soft iridescent rainbow hues over much of the cap and rays side, while the eagle side shows delicate orange-copper tone. Underlying luster remains visible in the fields, and the strike, unlike most that are encountered, is nearly full, with impressive clarity in the LIBERTAD script and only a tiny area of incompleteness within the eagle's features. All considered, the quality is seldom surpassed, with this coin's single finest graded status at PCGS attesting to its elusiveness.
From the Matthew Orsini Collection. Ex: Richard Ponterio Collection.
