Louis XVI to Napoleon III (1774-1870)

FRANCE. Silver 5 Francs Essai (Pattern), 1825. Charles X. PCGS SPECIMEN-63 Gold Shield.

Maz-900; Gad-645a. Struck to commemorate the visit of Marie-Caroline de Bourbon-Sicilie, Duchesse de Berry (daughter-in-law of Charles X) to the Paris mint. This highly attractive example, struck in the weight and diameter of 5 Francs, displays lovely mottled gray patina with iridescent hues that pop out with tilted in the light accentuating the bold frosty devices and lustrous smooth surfaces. A handsome survivor exhibits an expressive portrait of the monarch with a pleasing appearance sure to garner much attention from quality conscious collectors.
