Mint Errors
1851-O Silver Three-Cent Piece--Flipover Double Strike--AU-50 (PCGS).
A dramatic Mint error in its own right, this coin is of even further significance given the fact that the 1851-O is the only mintmarked issue in the silver three-cent series. Both sides are pleasingly original with soft pearl gray patina to smooth-looking surfaces. Remnants of the first strike remain bold enough to be discerned by the unaided eye, including portions of the star and shield in the center of the reverse and, on the obverse, a nearly full O mintmark over and above the upper right point of the star. One our most exciting Mint error offerings in recent years, this coin is sure to see spirited bidding among specialists.
