Liberty Head Half Eagle
1901 Liberty Head Half Eagle. JD-1, the only known dies. Rarity-4. Proof-55 (PCGS). CAC.
This attractive example displays undeniable Proof quality with mirrored fields that support sharply impressed design elements on both sides of this bright honey-gold specimen. The Proof 1901 half eagle was produced to the extent of 140 coins and enjoys tremendous appeal among Proof gold type collectors. Not much more than half of the original mintage can be traced today, with John W. Dannreuther (2018) providing an estimate of just 80-100 coins extant.
