Morgan Silver Dollar
1904-S Morgan Silver Dollar. MS-66 (PCGS). CAC.
Here is a simply outstanding example of this scarce, conditionally challenging Morgan dollar from the final year of the "original" series (i.e., 1878 to 1904). Sharply struck with bountiful satin to softly frosted luster, both sides are enhanced by light toning in iridescent gold. The overall appearance is pristine, and the quality is very close to an even higher Gem Mint State rating. The 1904-S is one of the most elusive Morgan dollars in all grades, as much of the mintage of 2,304,000 pieces was likely melted under the Pittman Act in 1918. Release of coins from federal storage was limited and came to an end during the 1950s; there were none in the Treasury Department releases of 1962 to 1964. As one of the finest examples known to PCGS, this lovely coin represents a significant find for advanced collectors specializing in this popular series.
