Barber Quarter
1901-S Barber Quarter. VF Details--Damage (PCGS).
Overall bold with strong definition to the central elements. The surfaces are somewhat rough, featuring patches of porosity and thicker black patina in the obverse fields. Scattered scratches and finer evidence of tooling is also visible under a glass. A satisfying hole-filler for this prized key-date. Although the 1913-S has a lower mintage, the 1901-S is the unrivaled key date in the circulation strike Barber quarter series. Survivors from a production run of 72,664 pieces are scarce to rare at all levels of preservation, and most are in well worn grades such as AG, Good and VG. Sharp VF and EF examples are elusive and always subject to heavy demand, stressing the importance of the current offering.
