1760 Voce Populi Halfpenny. Nelson-12, Zelinka 15-N, W-13950. P in Front of Face. AU-50 (PCGS).
187.0 grains. Well centered on a nice broad planchet, this is a very nice example of a variety that is usually attractive and well made. This one is dark chocolate brown with some lighter contrast on devices, somewhat evenly granular but still glossy and appealing. A bit of harmless verdigris blends into the central reverse. Rather than speculate on what the P may mean, since none of the stories have ever made much sense to us, we’ll simply call it enigmatic and undocumented.
