Military Medals
UNDATED Major General William Henry Harrison / Battle of the Thames Medal. By Moritz Furst. Julian MI-14. Bronze. MS-64 BN (NGC).
65 mm. Well blended olive and autumn-brown patina is a bit deeper overall on the reverse. Both sides are fully impressed with modestly semi-reflective fields that reveal iridescent undertones at direct lighting angles. According to Julian, the future president took exception to the reverse design of the medal, preferring a battle scene instead of that proposed. He was overruled by Judge Hopkinson at the War Department, and the gold medal was struck in May 1824. The present example in bronze is likely from the original dies, but struck later in the 19th century.
