Obverse: Christ, upon his resurrection, opening the Gates of Hell so that sinners may be received in Heaven; the devil sits atop the gates; Reverse: Samson Carries Off the Gates of Gaza (Judges 16:3)--Samson advancing left, head right, carrying on his shoulders the town gates of Gaza. Lightly chased as is customary for the type, with some pleasing toning and solid relief. Great 16th century religious type, and rather SCARCE as well.
