CANADA. Dollar, 1947. Ottawa Mint. NGC MS-62.
KM-37. Maple Leaf at Date Variety. A nicely struck and bright dollar with some peripheral toning. The maple leaf privy mark indicates this coin was struck just after India was granted independence thus invalidating the obverse die with "ET IND: IMP" in the legend. Since new obverse dies would take time to produce, the mint decided to continue striking 1947-dated coins with the outmoded obverse, but added the maple leaf privy mark just after the date for distinguishing purposes. A result, this type is SCARCE r and highly sought by collectors.
