Description

CALIGULA, A.D. 37-41. AE As (10.25 gms), Rome Mint, A.D. 40-41. NGC Ch EF, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 3/5. Light Smoothing.
RIC-54. Obverse: Bare head left; Reverse: Vesta seated left on ornamental throne, holding patera and scepter. Deep forest green surfaces, with a charming glossy nature. Some smoothing is noted, but this piece remains a much more attractive example of the type than is generally encountered. A great portrait of this infamous emperor at the end of his fairly brief reign.
