ITALY. Sardinia. Doppia, 1571. Emanuele Filberto. NGC VF-35.
Fr-1042; MIR-490b; Biaggi-412b; Nomisma-38C. A moderately circulated example of this RARE type with pleasing detail that results from a strike that was far more even than most seen. Nicknamed 'Ironhead' for his military prowess, Emanuele Filberto is perhaps best known for his Italianization of the House of Savoy, which had been occupied by France since the time he was a child. After his assumption of power, he moved the capital to Turin and made Italian the official language in Piedmont (a northwest region in Italy).
