★ From a Mintage of Only 100 Pieces ★
GREAT BRITAIN. Mary (of Modena) Coronation Gold Medal, ND (1685). PCGS MS-62 Gold Shield.
MI-606/7; Eimer-274. By J. Roettiers. Mintage: 100. Obverse: MARIA D G ANG SCO FR ET HI REGINA, laureate and draped bust right; Reverse: O DEA CERTE, Mary seated right atop a rocky mound. Rather vibrant and attractive, this VERY RARE example, from a particularly small mintage, presents a solid strike and problem free surfaces. Tied with just two others as the only specimens graded across both services. The second wife of the future James II, Mary of Modena was the mother of James (III), the boy who would--among the Jacobites--be viewed as the rightful heir to his father and the King of England. To others, however, he was simply, 'the Old Pretender.'
